Another small step for SWQOs

Plans for statutory water quality objectives (SWQOs) inched forward in January as the National Rivers Authority (NRA) announced that it will go ahead with consultation on eight pilot catchments. But a further delay is looming because it has been ordered by the Department of the Environment (DoE) to prepare cost-benefit assessments of its proposals, and the first SWQOs are now unlikely to be introduced this year.
