Energy saving on back burner as gas competition looms
British Gas has pulled out of a scheme which could have helped up to 200,000 householders to install energy conservation measures. The move is the final blow to the Energy Saving Trust's plans to promote energy efficiency using funds raised by a levy on gas consumers. It has also added to fears that gas suppliers see little scope for energy efficiency services in the incoming competitive market for domestic gas supply.
