Dust pollution appeals clarify DoE thinking on "excessive" costs

Appeals against air pollution control conditions imposed on five coal handling businesses in Immingham have been determined by the Environment Secretary. His decisions have helped to clarify how the Department of the Environment expects dust emissions to be controlled and its view of what level of costs is "excessive" for this purpose, as well as underlining that decisions on what is an excessive cost should disregard the financial circumstances of an individual company. Separately, two firms have won appeals against revocation of their authorisations.
