US attacks European plans for electronics take-back laws
The US Government is urging European electronics companies to lobby against take-back provisions for used equipment on the grounds that they constitute a barrier to trade. However, several EC countries are rapidly developing proposals obliging companies to recover obsolete electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), and it now looks increasingly likely that the European Commission will propose framework legislation.
