Saga of polluting smelter closes with £10,000 fine

The troubled history of Ferro Alloys & Metals' molybdenum smelter in Glossop, Derbyshire, appears to have ended with a £10,000 fine for air pollution offences. The plant has now been shut down - and HM Inspectorate of Pollution (HMIP) has ruled that it cannot be recommissioned without upgrading to new plant standards.
