Study links liver cancers to waste incinerators

An epidemiological study of populations around 72 municipal waste incinerators has found a significant excess of liver cancers in people living within one kilometre of the plants.1 However, the Government believes the results may be an artefact, and cites doubts about the diagnosis of primary liver cancer. The Department of Health has announced a review of the cases in the study.
