Royal Commission puts soil on the map
The Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution (RCEP) has urged the Government to give soils as much protection in its environmental policies as air and water. The most radical recommendations in its new report on soil are aimed at discouraging development on rural land and accelerating the recycling of contaminated sites. The report also contains recommendations on waste disposal to land, landfills and mapping and monitoring of the soil resource.1
