£17,500 fine for fish kill caps Severn Trent's annus horribilis

Severn Trent Water was ordered to pay £17,500 last December for a sewage spill which killed 16,000 fish. The case was its eleventh appearance in court on environmental charges in 1995 and pushed its fines and costs above £315,000 for the year - making a nonsense of its claim that its environmental performance is "among the best" in the industry.
