Phthalates shock for food industry

Research by the Ministry of Agriculture (MAFF) has found levels of phthalate plasticisers in baby formula milk which may be high enough to trigger oestrogenic effects.1 Average intakes of the compounds from formula milk exceed EC precautionary limits, and are uncomfortably close to doses known to cause reproductive effects in animals.
