Dispute over costs of kerbside recycling

The added cost of collecting household recyclables in the UK could be much lower than previous estimates, according to an Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) report on a pilot project in West Sussex.1 But some local authorities argue that the low costs were achieved partly by efficiency gains to the existing refuse collection service, and doubt whether they could be replicated across the country.
