Work starts on eco-indicators for building materials

A methodology for assessing the life-cycle environmental effects of building materials is being devised by the Building Research Establishment. The BRE is also planning to set up a database of environmental indicators for construction materials to facilitate comparisons of the impacts of different building components and design options.
