Unilever firm fined £30,000 over Mersey oil pollution
Unilever subsidiary Crosfield has been fined £30,000 for polluting the river Mersey with a spill of heavy fuel oil at its chemical manufacturing site in Warrington, Cheshire. The case, brought jointly by HM Inspectorate of Pollution (HMIP) and the National Rivers Authority (NRA), was the latest in a series of offences by local Unilever businesses.
