Ministers act on biocides, CO<SUB>2</SUB> emissions from cars

Environment Ministers took the EC's environmental policy into uncharted waters on 25 June by inviting the European Commission to pursue a voluntary agreement with vehicle manufacturers on reductions in carbon dioxide emissions from cars. The Council also agreed common positions on two Directives on biocides and emissions from off-road machinery, and asked the Commission to prepare a new proposal on landfills. The meeting also got embroiled in a controversy about genetically modified maize.
