Teesside toxic episodes linked to industrial emissions

Unusually high levels of the carcinogenic gases benzene and 1,3-butadiene were detected on Teesside by the Department of Environment's air quality monitoring site in September. The episodes appear to be due to one or more remote industrial emissions, but the Environment Agency has been unable to track down the sources.
