DTI's "toothless" oversight of offshore oil industry

The Department of Trade and Industry's regulation of the offshore oil and gas industry has been attacked as "toothless, blind and lame" by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS). The group accuses the DTI of protecting offshore operators from public scrutiny by failing to produce company-specific data on their environmental performance, and claims that its oversight of the industry is compromised by its role in promoting its expansion.
