Agency's warning shot over Budget

The Environment Agency has warned that the environment will suffer if its grant-in-aid is cut in the forthcoming Budget. The Agency is already planning to trim its staff by 500 over the next three years - but fears that it may need to make further cuts in both operating expenditure and manpower if current suspicions that it may lose at least £20 million in grants and levies are borne out by the Budget.
