Evidence accumulates on global distillation of POPs

Evidence is mounting that some persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are accumulating in polar and cold temperate regions. The pollutants - including many organochlorine pesticides, dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) - were released in warmer areas but are condensing through a process of "global distillation". Indigenous populations in arctic areas already have body burdens of organochlorine compounds which are a cause for concern and arctic ecosystems are under threat.
