Refrigerator eco-label rules out HFCs

Refrigerators using HFC coolants have been barred from qualifying for the EC eco-label because the chemicals are such potent greenhouse gases. The move is a further blow to the environmental image of HFCs, and a vindication of firms using hydrocarbons. The label could also open a market for hydrocarbon fridges in the UK - where such models are currently manufactured only for export.
