Uniform principles setback to stall approval of pesticides

The legal and political row over the uniform principles annex of the 1991 EC Directive on pesticides authorisation may persist into 1998, UK officials warned in October. Without the annex Member States will not be able to approve either new or existing pesticide products. Meanwhile, the Community is still feeling its way on other key issues such as the procedures for peer review of national safety assessments of pesticide active ingredients and mutual recognition of pesticide approvals.
