Commission woos industry with eco-labelling revamp

Plans for a radical overhaul of the EC's eco-labelling scheme have been unveiled by the European Commission. They are aimed at encouraging more companies to apply for labels by opening up the application process to retailers, reducing costs and simplifying the procedure for setting criteria. But controversy is likely to be sparked by the Commission's proposal to set less stringent environmental criteria to allow more products to qualify for the eco-label.
