Industry LCAs support recycling of plastic containers

Two life-cycle assessments (LCAs) sponsored by the plastics industry are being used to support the case for recycling of plastic containers. The British Plastics Federation (BPF) says that recycling polystyrene cups offers "significant environmental gains" over landfilling or energy recovery - while plastic bottle reprocessor Reprise claims that manufacture of virgin plastics uses eight times more energy than recycling of post-consumer bottles.
