New rules on discharge consents, enforcement notices

Regulations amending the existing rules on applications, appeals and public registers of information on discharges to water will come into force in England and Wales on 31 December. New powers for the Environment Agency to serve enforcement notices on dischargers have also been brought into force, and formal implementation of two EC Directives adopted in the 1970s on surface waters used for abstraction of drinking water has finally been completed.
