The multinational chemical company Monsanto has selected California-based research company SRI International to develop a technology to separate ammonia from organic compounds in wastewater. Last year, Monsanto issued a $1 million worldwide challenge to find a solution for the problem (ENDS Report 235, p 11). It has received 180 proposals. SRI will receive $0.5 million to develop a laboratory-based demonstration system. Monsanto predicts it will take one year to complete the laboratory work.
