Life-cycle assessment (LCA) is emerging as an important tool in defining the UK's waste management strategy and helping waste regulators and planners make informed decisions about waste streams. The Department of the Environment (DoE) has drawn up guidelines for compiling a life-cycle inventory of waste management options, and is now about to embark on a large data collection exercise.
