Warning bells for water industry over organics in sludge

Rising public concern in some European countries over organic contaminants in sewage sludge may render sludge disposal on agricultural land unacceptable, a symposium at Lancaster University heard in April. A particular concern is that the water industry will be unable to satisfy the public that the practice is safe because of a lack of monitoring data.
