Government goes half-way to protect soil from metals

The Government has accepted recommendations by a scientific committee that controls on spreading of sewage sludge containing zinc and cadmium on agricultural land should be tightened. But it has failed to respond to other recommendations that producers of household products containing zinc which is likely to find its way into the sewerage system should be pressurised to develop alternative formulations.
