DTI forced to extend environmental assessment offshore

A complaint to the European Commission by two Welsh environmental groups has forced the Government to introduce environmental assessment requirements for offshore oil and gas activities. But they remain concerned that the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will attempt to exclude exploration drilling from the scope of the new requirements, and continue to keep environmental information on offshore activities out of the public domain behind the cloak of commercial confidentiality.
