Strategic rethink on water urged by MEPs

The European Parliament's Environment Committee called for a strategic review of the EC's water policies at an expert hearing in June. Its core proposal is that the draft Directive on the ecological quality of water could be reinforced to form a framework Directive on water. Environment Commissioner Ritt Bjerregaard used the event to ask MEPs for help in opposing deregulatory initiatives from the UK and Germany and the Molitor Committee.
