Industry wins concessions on licences for effluent plant

A violent backlash from industry to the Department of the Environment's ruling in May that waste management licences may be required for many effluent treatment plants has forced it to backtrack. On 25 July, it announced that the deadline for licence applications for such plants is to be extended to next March, and in the meantime it will consult on possible exemptions from licensing.
