Landfill schemes take lead in methane reductions

Landfill gas utilisation projects are set to reduce annual methane emissions from UK landfills by 500,000 tonnes by 2000, according to the Department of Trade and Industry's Energy Technology Support Unit (ETSU). The significance of this reduction for the Government's climate change policy will depend on the outcome of studies designed to provide a reliable estimate of total landfill gas emissions.
