Toxicity of PAHs, THMs in drinking water reviewed
At the request of the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), advisory committees to the Department of Health (DoH) have reviewed the toxicology of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and trihalomethanes (THMs) as drinking water contaminants. Their report concludes that one PAH and three THMs are potential human genotoxic carcinogens, and recommends that levels in water supplies should not be allowed to rise. However, it is unlikely to lead to any changes in water quality regulations.
