Squeeze on ozone depleters for essential uses

The quantity of ozone-depleting CFCs and carbon tetrachloride allowed to be consumed in "essential" uses in 1996 within the EC has been cut by a quarter from this year's quota. The squeeze may be felt by UK pharmaceutical companies, which were allocated over half of the EC's total consumption in essential uses for 1995.
