Oil industry benzene study finds no firm leukaemia link

A major study funded by the Institute of Petroleum (IoP) has found only a tentative link between exposure to low levels of benzene and the incidence of leukaemia among oil distribution workers.1 But the results do little to bear out claims by petrol retailers that a proposed air quality standard (AQS) for benzene is overly cautious.
