Enforcement practices caught in deregulation drive

The Government has attempted to revive its flagging campaign to reduce regulatory burdens on business by accepting most of the 52 recommendations made in the first report of its Deregulation Task Force.1 Possibly the most important move in the environmental field will be the introduction of new procedures which may force the Environment Agency to soften traditional enforcement practices and blur the line between regulation and assisting industry to prosper and comply with the law.
