DoE proposes changes to farm pollution rules

Proposals to amend existing regulations on agricultural pollution were issued by the Department of the Environment (DoE) on 20 September.1 The main changes will be the lifting of an impending ban on silage-making in fields, and the introduction of a power for the Environment Agency to serve notices on farmers to carry out anti-pollution works rather than go directly to prosecution.
