Agency chief wants less litigation, "deals" with industry
Water polluters are less likely to be prosecuted after the National Rivers Authority (NRA) merges into the Environment Agency, according to comments made by the Chief Executive of both bodies, Ed Gallagher, at a conference in October. Mr Gallagher also suggested that the Agency will look to do "deals" with companies to reduce their monitoring costs if some of the savings were ploughed back into environmental improvement.
