Metals industry to challenge UK definition of waste

The British Metals Federation (BMF) is aiming to bring a legal challenge to the definition of waste before the High Court by next summer. The move will be funded by recycling businesses from all over the world in the hope that a UK ruling will influence other bodies of law. The challenge is part of a strategy to exempt materials for recycling from export bans such as that agreed under the Basel Convention on transboundary waste shipments.
