Review recommends slimming of nitrate protection zones

Changes to eleven out of 70 nitrate vulnerable zones (NVZs) proposed by the Government to curb nitrate contamination of water supplies have been recommended by an independent review panel following objections from farmers.1 Two of the zones may not now be designated, and the size of the other nine is likely to be reduced.
