Water regulator's first report on sewage treatment services

Statistics on the water companies' environmental performance as sewerage undertakers have been published by water regulator Ofwat for the first time.1 The report shows that 12% of the population of England and Wales is served by sewage works which breached their discharge consents in 1994/5, while 10% of the population is served by unsatisfactory sewage outfalls to the sea.
