Commission taken to task over reporting record

The UK is expected shortly to make another of its periodic attempts to persuade its European partners to take the implementation of EC environmental laws more seriously. The initiative follows a study for the Department of the Environment (DoE) which has drawn attention to the European Commission's poor record of publishing reports showing how Member States are applying EC rules - and suggests that they are at least tacitly colluding to keep such reports out of the public domain.1
