UK to oppose EC targets for packaging waste

The Government has announced that it will be opposing the recovery and recycling targets for each packaging material proposed by the European Commission in its draft Directive on packaging waste. The UK will be seeking instead a single target for diverting waste packaging from landfill which would enable Member States to decide how much of each material should be reused, recycled or incinerated.
