Hazardous substances consents for Scotland

Regulations introducing a system of hazardous substances consents in Scotland were laid before Parliament on 8 March.1 They give planning authorities new powers to control the storage and use of hazardous chemicals.

The regulations come into force on 1 May. Similar rules were introduced in England and Wales last summer (ENDS Report 206, pp 28-29 ).
