Sharp growth forecast for LCAs
The European market for life-cycle assessments (LCAs) is expected to grow from a "very few" LCAs in 1990 to "several thousand" by 1995, according to research conducted for the Society for the Promotion of Life Cycle Development (SPOLD). With data acquisition accounting for 50-90% of LCA work, the case for an open database of standard inventory data is compelling - but the costs would be significant.
