Poultry firm held liable for contractor's plumbing error

A contractor's error has provided no defence for a Lincolnshire poultry firm charged with polluting a drainage dyke.

The pollution incident occurred last April, when a National Rivers Authority (NRA) inspector found the ditch, at Anwick, near Sleaford, to be red and septic with blood. The pollution was traced to the premises of G W Padley (Poultry), where investigations attributed it to a wrongly connected drain.
