Fibreboard packaging rated most "environment-friendly"

Environmental considerations look like pushing growing numbers of businesses towards using corrugated fibreboard, according to a recent survey.1 Foil, plastics and laminates appear to be most at risk of losing market share.

The survey was conducted on behalf of corrugated board producers and their suppliers. 120 users of packaging from numerous industries were asked to rate various competing materials for environment-friendliness on a scale of 1 to 5.

At the top of the league, with an average of 4.5, came corrugated fibreboard. This was followed by carton board (4.26), glass (3.89), foil (2.34), plastics (2.28) and finally laminate (1.57).
