A salmon found in the River Don has given hope to conservationists that the species is returning to Sheffield city centre after an absence of 150 years.

The dead female salmon was found earlier this month by a member of the public who reported the find to the Environment Agency (EA). The agency concluded that it had died “from natural causes” and that it had spawned before it died.
