The government could find itself back in court over its continuing failure to tackle “excessive storm water overflows” in London and Sunderland.

In 2012, the European Court of Justice (CJEU) ruled that the UK had failed to ensure that appropriate wastewater collecting and treatment systems were in place in Whitburn in Sunderland and in Beckton, Mogden and Crossness in London.
