The government appointed a “food waste champion” in December to tackle what environment secretary Michael Gove has called the “economic, environmental and moral scandal” of 250 million meals being thrown away in the UK every year.

Ben Elliot, a philanthropist and nephew of the Duchess of Cornwall, will support government plans to eliminate food waste going to landfill by 2030.
