Waste firms will no longer need to apply for a environmental permit when using tyre bales as part of landfill infrastructure works.

In a regulatory position statement (RPS) published last week, the Environment Agency (EA) said that tyres used as part of a permanent part of a landfill structure, for example in leachate drainage layers at permitted landfill sites, would not require a waste recovery environmental permit.
