Document title: Energy and Climate after Brexit
Date: 6 February 2019
Document type: Guidance
Summary: Notes UK industry will not have to surrender emissions allowances from January 1 2019 until Brexit, with no requirement to repay that period in the event of no deal and the establishment of a carbon tax to replace the EU emissions trading scheme. Notes UK electricity market would be removed from the EU internal market in no deal, with UK market participants required to register under the Regulation on Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (REMIT) with an EU regulatory authority. Says the Single Electricity Market in Ireland may be unable to continue, and the Northern Ireland market could become separated from that of the Republic of Ireland.
